A study on an Agaricus mushroom supplementand it effect on obesity, shows promising results. With more than one-third of the nation’s adults falling into the obese category, this is good news.
What It Means to Be Obese
Few people realize there is a line between being overweight and being obese. To be considered obese you must weigh at least 20% more than your normal weight or have a BMI above 30. If you weigh 100 pounds or more over your normal weight, that would place you in the morbidly obese category. The focus of this article isn’t on whether or not you’re obese, but how to possibly help you get control of your weight.
Study of Agaricus Mushroom Supplement on Obesity
The Agaricus Blazei Murill is well-known as a medicinal mushroom used for its anti-tumor properties, but researchers continue to study the mushroom to understand the full scope of its health benefits. One recent study to a look at the Agaricus mushroom and whether or not it could be used to fight obesity; the results were promising.
The focus of the study was to see if supplementation with Agaricus Blazei Murill extract could affect diet-induced obesity in rats. For the study, one group of rats was fed a controlled diet while the other was fed a high-fat diet. Some of the high-fat rats were also given the Agaricus Blazei extract. The high-fat group not given the extract developed conditions including insulin resistance and glucose intolerance among other diet-related health problems. However, results on the high-fat rats that did receive the supplement suggest the supplement offered a “protective effect against body weight gain and all study related disorders.” These results were not due to a decrease in the amount of food eaten, but are thought to be the result of more activity and energy which is attributed to the extract. Results of this study have led researchers to conclude that dietary supplementation with Agaricus Blazei Murill extract prevents diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance in rats. Of course more study is needed, but this is a promising start.
H1X1 Strain of Agaricus Blazei Murill
The most potent strain of the Agaricus Blazei Murill mushroom is H1X1 which is manufactured in the United States. All of the possible health benefits associated with the mushroom are still being investigated, but it is already being used for its broad spectrum immune system enhancement. It has also shown positive results in the fight against unwanted body fat, including belly fat. If you’re fighting obesity, talk with your doctor about supplementing with H1X1. It may be just what you need to get your heading back toward normal weight.
